Deploying Exchange Server 2010 Hosting mode (Part 1)

Prerequisites
· Download Exchange Server 2010 with Service Pack 1
· Download Exchange Server 2010 prerequisites script “Set-Exchange2010Prereqs.ps1
· Build the contoso.com domain environment
· Download KB979099, 977020, 983440, 979744, 982867

Remark: If you use Windows Server2008 R2 SP1 for Exchange installation, there is no need to install the above patches.

Preparing the lab environment

In this scenario, we have the following servers:

Server Name  
IP Address
Operating System
Server Role
DC1.contoso.com
10.10.1.1/8
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition
Domain Controller, Global Catalog, DNS Server
Mail1.contoso.com
10.10.1.2/8
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition
Exchange Server 2010 Hosting mode with HT, CAS, MB


Installing the required components

Assume we have downloaded the software to “C:\Software” folder.

1. At Mail1, login as Domain Administrator.
2. Launch “PowerShell”, enter the following cmdlet:

Set-ExecutionPolicy unrestricted

3. Press “Y”.
4. Navigate to “C:\Software”.
5. Enter “.\Set-Exchange2010Prereqs.ps1”.

6. Press “R”.

7. Press “11”.

The script uses BITS Transfer to download and install the prerequisites update and software.

8. Press “14” to restart the computer.
9. After the computer restart process finished, login as Domain Administrator.
10. Launch “Windows Explorer”, navigate to “C:\Software”.
11. Install KB979099, 977020, 983440, 979744, 982867.
12. Restart the computer.
